New Pier Inis Oírr Update. Progress Continues.

Back in March, we shared news about the long-awaited works at the new pier on Inis Oírr. Since then, there has been steady progress on site, and visitors arriving on the island over the past few weeks will have noticed some major new additions to the skyline.

Business as Usual on Inis Oírr

One of the main questions visitors have been asking is whether the pier works are affecting ferries or daily life on the island. The short answer is no.

Ferries are continuing to operate as normal, visitors are arriving daily, and life on Inis Oírr carries on much the same as always. Our bikes are still available at the top of the pier. Tours are continuing, and the island remains fully open for visitors throughout the season.

Progress Despite Early Weather Delays

Like many marine projects along the west coast, the early stages of the works faced some delays due to adverse weather conditions earlier in the season. Strong Atlantic winds and sea conditions can slow progress at times, particularly when large floating equipment and heavy lifting operations are involved.

Despite those early setbacks, visible progress is now being made. The arrival of the working barge and crane marks an important stage in the project, and it’s encouraging to see activity continuing steadily on site.

An interesting new feature to the skyline.

For locals and returning visitors alike, the sight of the crane rising above the pier has become an unusual addition to the familiar Inis Oírr skyline. It’s a reminder that while the island keeps its traditional pace of life, important infrastructure improvements are also moving forward in the background.
